Hospital Site Locator

Distill disparate quantitative and qualitative information, and recommend a location for a fictitious hospital — visually.

The Challenge

Prepare a map for the mayor and city council that shows and explains why or why not to build the hospital at the planned location, or if there’s a better site, show it on the map.

My Process

Data and analysis

Land cost, population, crime incidents and distance to parking were tabulated for each block. The variables were normalized to a 10 point scale and added to create an index (a site index score). The index allowed for more objective rating of the building sites.

Soft factors, like benefit to the neighborhood, reducing ethnic tension, commute times and proximity to bus lines were considered to make the final site selection

The Result

The creation of a site impact index, displayed in a choropleth map showing a new optimal site location. The shading reflects the index score calculated from the provided data.
